Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and their affiliated institutions are not-for-profit corporations that share the fundamental missions of providing medical care for patients, training health care professionals and conducting biomedical research. The purpose of the Intellectual Property Policy is to promote these missions by making inventions, copyrightable works and other intellectual property created by physicians, researchers, trainees and others associated with these institutions available for the benefit of the public, while providing for a fair allocation of the financial costs and rewards associated with them.
The Policy outlines the way in which intellectual property created at these institutions is owned and managed, and how income derived from this activity is distributed. Frequently asked Questions summarizes the key terms of the Policy in a question and answer format. It is not intended to summarize the entire Policy or to alter the Policy in any way.
